Deacon Anthony Amato will be ordained a priest on Saturday, June 3, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 10 AM. His first Solemn High Latin Mass will take place at St. Thomas the Apostle on the following day, Sunday, June 4, at 11:15 AM. We pray for him as he prepares for these great days in his (and our) life. According to the current norms of the Church regarding indulgences, a plenary indulgence is granted to the faithful who devoutly participate in the FIRST MASS of a newly-ordained priest. The requirements for gaining this indulgence are the performance of the indulgence work and fulfillment of three conditions:
- Sacramental Confession (several days preceding or following the Mass)
- Holy Communion (most fitting on the day of the Mass)
- Prayer for the Pope’s intentions (most fitting on the day of the Mass: usually the Our Father and the Hail Mary).
The gaining of a plenary indulgence presumes the person is in the state of grace and is not inwardly attached to any sin.
All are invited to a reception for Father Amato to be held on the south lawn of St. Thomas the Apostle immediately following his first Mass on June 4. Donations of baked goods or finger foods will be gratefully accepted and can be dropped off before or after the 11:15 a.m. Mass at the tables which will be set up outside the church. Please send an email to contact@SKT-LMC.org if you are planning on bringing something (you don’t have to say what) for the reception.
