VOLUNTEERS
WE DO NEED VOLUNTEERS to help maintain our facilities, especially in the area of church and parish center cleaning. We need YOU! Please email dflanigen@yahoo.com or call 467-8747. Enough volunteers will enable us to have rotating teams.
FAITH FORMATION
CONFIRMATION RETREAT
All candidates expecting to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this school year OR next school year are invited to attend a MANDATORY retreat at our Parish Center on Friday, February 19th (during Feb Break) from 9AM until approx 4PM (Please have your child bring a bagged lunch). The theme is Prayer. Our candidates will gain a deeper understanding of prayer and learn to defend our various forms of prayer to others. Why is it encouraged for Catholics to pray to The Blessed Mother? To the saints? We will explore more deeply the mysteries of the Rosary in the Adoration Chapel, there will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, confessions will be heard. Please email Andy at andrew.follaco@bcs1.org to confirm your child’s attendance. He needs an accurate count by Sunday, February 14th.
FIRST PENANCE
First Penance classes are in session. They will continue in the parish center today and 2/28. First Penance will take place on Saturday March 5th at 10AM. We ask the community for their prayers as our 10 children continue their preparation. A reminder that there will be no classes on 2/14 and 2/21 due to February Recess.
PRAYING FOR THE SICK AND INFIRM
Happily, Judy Burns has come forward and volunteered to coordinate the SKT-LMC bulletin listing of sick and infirm members, relatives, and friends. The list will be there so that we might pray for them. Please note that NO health information will be printed in this bulletin. Judy will coordinate the names: long-term? short-term? when to take off list? etc. To put names on the list, contact Judy Burns at (cell) 585-738-5156 OR (e-mail) burnsie320 @yahoo.com.

DIOCESAN DAY OF PENANCE
The Diocesan Day of Penance this year is scheduled for Wednesday, March 9, from 12:30 to 7:30 PM. Many churches will be OPEN with priest-confessors available to hear confessions during those hours. Future notices will give details about how this will be implemented here at St. Thomas. Do you have QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SACRAMENT OF PENANCE (CONFESSION)? Go to http://forgiven.dor.org and click on “Commonly Asked Questions” to get the answers!
ROCHESTER CATHOLIC WOMEN’S CONFERENCE
The Rochester Catholic Women’s Conference is coming up! The Conference is returning this year to the Aquinas Institute on March 12, 2016. This year’s theme is “Love One Another”. Registration is now open. Please visit Rochestercwc.org for Conference details and to register online.
WHEN YOU COME TO CHURCH, please turn OFF all cell phones, hand-held electronic devices, pagers, watch alarms, etc. ALSO, remember to dress appropriately (neatly and modestly). Unfortunately, in many churches today, people tend to “dress down” for Mass. How can this be??? RESPECT and REVERENCE toward God and neighbor (i.e. charity) should determine how we present ourselves in the House of God. Thank you, in advance, for your courtesy and cooperation.
——–NEW NOTICES——–
STATIONS OF THE CROSS
THE STATIONS OF THE CROSS will be prayed this year on the Fridays of Lent at 7:30PM in the Church. (Good Friday plan is yet to be determined.)
ASH WEDNESDAY SCHEDULE
LENT BEGINS THIS WEEK with ASH WEDNESDAY on February 10 (not a Holyday of Obligation). Masses with the distribution of blessed ashes will take place as noted here:
EXTRAORDINARY FORM
(Latin) 12 NOON
ORDINARY FORM
(English) 5:30PM
Ashes are imposed and received as a mark of our mortality and as a sign of our repentance at the opening of the Lenten observance.
LENTEN OBSERVANCE
1) Abstinence from meat: Those who have completed their 14th birthday are obliged to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and on ALL the Fridays of Lent.
2) Fasting: Those between the ages of 18 and 59 (inclusive) are also obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. In fasting, one is permitted to eat a single full meal and two other small meals which, when added together, do not equal a full meal and no eating between meals.
3) Other acts of penance are encouraged according to one’s health and generosity with God. The classic Lenten penitential formula is PRAYER, FASTING, and ALMSGIVING (i.e. works of charity and mercy).
LENTEN SOUP SUPPER
A LENTEN SOUP SUPPER is being planned for Friday, February 12, in the Parish Center, from 6-7 PM. Please join us for a simple supper of soup and bread, followed by the STATIONS of the CROSS in Church at 7:30PM. In keeping with the spirit of this “Year of Mercy,” please consider donating a non-perishable food item or a personal hygiene article to share as a corporal work of mercy. To reserve a space or to volunteer your help at the supper, call Marcy Gabello at 756-6375 (h) or 739-3832 (c).

WHAT SHOULD I GIVE UP FOR LENT?
Lent is the perfect time to form new life-giving habits and abandon old self-destructive habits. But most of us just give up chocolate. Then, when Easter arrives, we realize we really haven’t grown spiritually since the beginning of Lent. Lent is not just about giving things up, like chocolate. Lent is about doing something—something bold to become a better husband or wife, father or mother, son or daughter, friend, neighbor, etc. What if this year you did more than just give up something during Lent? Do something life-changing. Sign up for Dynamic Catholic’s Best Lent Ever® email program. Each day you’ll receive an email with a short video sharing simple ways to bring Jesus into your everyday life. The program is free! All you have to do is sign up at DynamicCatholic.com/Lent.
HELPING OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY
Each Sunday throughout the year, SKT-LMC collects donations for local food cupboards. During Lent, let’s make an extra effort and use our Lenten sacrifice to alleviate hunger caused by poverty and improve the lives of individuals and families in our community. Donations may be placed in the green baskets at each of the entrances.
COFFEE HOURS WILL BE HOSTED TODAY after both Masses. Thanks to the courtesy and effort of our volunteers!
